The Dead Leaf Mantis - Framed Taxidermy

Despite its ominous nickname, the “black death” moniker appears to be more of a stylistic or taxidermy label than a recognized species. However, the Deroplatys desiccata, known as the dead leaf mantis, often matches that eerie vibe due to its mimicry and coloring. It is native to Southeast Asia, including Malaysia and Indonesia. This insect mimics dead leaves for camouflage and brown coloration resembles forest debris. It uses predatory and stealthy ambush tactics to catch its prey.
